Layered wax and natural grain come together in this warm, textural homage to sunlit days by the sea. A perfect companion to Summer at the Cape I.

Encaustic Painting
What it is & why I love it
Encaustic painting is an ancient technique and consists of melting natural Beeswax and Dammar resin (crystallised tree sap), to which pigment may be added. The dammar resin causes the beeswax to cure to a durable hard surface. Each layer of encaustic paint is fused to the previous by heating with a blowtorch.
Approximately two years ago, I began exploring encaustic painting (hot wax) as a new medium. I was immediately drawn to its tactile nature, the richness of the pigments, and the unique ability to build up texture or reveal subtle, translucent layers of underpainting. Wax Lyrical is a collection of paintings from my ongoing exploration with wax—a personal journey of discovery, artistic development and creative joy.
