About the Artist
Creating wonder from the quiet details of the world around us.
Why I Paint
My creative process is deeply influenced by the small, awe-inspiring moments of everyday life. Living in the west of Ireland provides constant inspiration. From the intricate patterns of stone walls viewed from above, to the vibrant colours revealed after a rainstorm, and the serene beauty of the surrounding waters. It’s these simple yet stunning details that stop me in my tracks time and again.
Having spent a significant portion of my life as a medical scientist, I’ve had the privilege of looking through microscopes at the intricate structures of human tissue. I am endlessly fascinated by how these microscopic patterns mirror those found in nature -the branching of rivers, the veins in a butterfly’s wing and the fractal designs of shells. These organic, interconnected shapes often weave their way into my work, grounding my compositions in a deeper connection to life itself.
A World Full of Wonder
Pablo Picasso once mused, “Every child is an artist; the trick is staying one as we grow up.” Children possess a boundless creativity and curiosity, free from the constraints of judgment, and I strive to preserve that sense of wonder within myself. Letting ideas flow untamed, I embrace the beauty of spontaneity. Sometimes the result is chaos, but other times, as if by magic, a painting breathes to life, unburdened by expectation. Painting is my passion, but it’s also a playground - a space for endless exploration. Experimenting with textures, mediums, and concepts keeps my practice alive and ever-changing.

I have been painting for over 25 years and have exhibited in many group exhibitions throughout Connaught. I have had solo exhibitions In Claregalway, Athenry and Galway city.
